The most comprehensive event focusing on innovations of advanced charging & downsizing concepts from leading international OEMs
- chaired by Dr. Geoff Capon, Turbocharger Systems Specialist, Powertrain Calibration, Development and NVH, Ford Motor Company Limited, United Kingdom!
In the coming years, automotive manufacturers face increasingly strict emissions and fuel efficiency requirements. Industry experts agree that one of the most cost-effective routes to achieving this is the implementation of intelligent downsizing and turbocharging concepts. In spite of the strong focus on electric and hybrid vehicles development, modern combustion engines are still the dominating technology – and will be for quite some time. There is still considerable development potential, both in gasoline, diesel and hybrid powertrains.
Most diesel engines are already equipped with a turbocharger, now engine developers are increasingly focusing on finding solutions for boosted gasoline engines. It is estimated that by 2015, turbochargers will find their way into over 50% of gasoline powertrains.
The turbocharger is a highly complex product that is set to become widely used in gasoline engines. In order to limit emissions, but at the same time improve overall efficiency while reducing costs, designers of turbocharger are facing sophisticated challenges. This has meant that new charging and downsizing concepts are required.
